Virtual fit consults. On your schedule, in your actual environment.
When people first hear "virtual wheelchair consult," the reaction is often skepticism. A video call can't replace hands-on assessment, right? Actually, in many cases, a well-structured virtual consult gathers better information than an in-person visit at a showroom — because we're working from your real environment, not a clinical setting.
What a virtual fit consult covers
In a 30-minute consult, we cover your diagnosis and functional history, your daily environment and activity level, the 7 key body measurements (you measure yourself before the call, using the guide on this site), your current equipment situation if any, your transfer method, your skin history, your transport situation, your budget, and your priorities. From that, I can build a complete, specific recommendation: frame and model, seat dimensions, component selections, cushion, and total configured cost.
Why your environment is more useful than a showroom
A showroom has flat floors, wide doorways, and controlled conditions. Your home has your bathroom doorway, your kitchen layout, your van, your specific threshold heights, your actual daily surfaces. When I can see your environment on video, or when you've measured your actual doorways and described your terrain, the recommendation is calibrated to your real life — not to what works on a showroom floor.
What virtual doesn't fully replace
A thorough in-person seating evaluation by an occupational or physical therapist — especially one with CRT specialization — remains the gold standard for complex postural needs. If you have significant scoliosis, pelvic obliquity, severe spasticity, or other complex postural factors, a hands-on mat evaluation is important. I'll tell you that directly if I think your situation warrants it. For most wheelchair users selecting or upgrading equipment, a well-structured virtual evaluation provides the information needed to make a fully confident decision.
Scheduling and what to prepare
Evaluations are scheduled on your timeline — not around a clinic's appointment calendar. Before the call, I send you the measurement guide (or you use the one on this site) so we're not spending half the session on basics. You'll need a soft tape measure, a firm flat surface to sit on, your current wheelchair if you have one, and about 10 minutes of prep time. The call itself takes 30 minutes. You get a written summary — frame recommendation, full spec sheet, configured price — within 24 hours.
